David and Bill Cox


Carey Cox founded Carey Cox Company in 1977 specializing in commercial and industrial real estate. In 1977, McKinney had about 15,000 residents, and today is at the center of the fastest growing county in Texas with projected growth of 400,000 residents by the year 2025. Mr. Cox and Carey Cox Company were key contributors to the growth of McKinney and Collin County. Mr.Cox was a dedicated volunteer who led by example, giving generously of his time and talents in support of numerous charitable and community organizations; he was a Paul Harris Fellow and former president of Rotary International and the local United Way board and served as a board member of the Boys & Girls Club and the American Red Cross. Deeply committed to the service of others, he was an active member of the First United Methodist Church where he lived his faith as a youth counselor, Sunday school teacher, choir member and lay leader.

In 1985 Mr. Cox co-founded Collin County Community College. He was the school's first board chairman, and held the post until stepping down in 2000. He helped the college develop into a highly respected educational institution and earned the admiration of the community for his visionary leadership. Mr. Cox was also active in the Greater Dallas Association of Realtors and the North Texas Commercial Association of Realtors where he received the designation SIOR. In 2000 he was awarded the prestigious Stemmons Service Award.

Mr. Cox was selected the Outstanding McKinney Citizen of 2000 by the McKinney Chamber of Commerce, an honor that recognizes outstanding works for the community; charitable, educational, spiritual, and of course, visionary leadership.

Following his death in 2001, The McKinney Chamber of Commerce renamed the Outstanding Citizen award the "Carey Cox Outstanding Citizen Award".

His sons, Bill and David Cox now lead the Carey Cox Company. McKinney natives and graduates of McKinney High School, Bill and David are raising their own children in this community.

Bill, the older of the two brothers, graduated from the University of Texas in 1988 and stayed in Austin until 1993 as a legislative consultant. At that time he returned to McKinney to begin working with his father. Bill currently serves the City of McKinney as a Council Member at Large. Bill served as Chairman of the Planning and Zoning Committee for the City of McKinney and is a past chairman of the McKinney Chamber of Commerce. He is an active member of First United Methodist church. He is Past President of the Rotary Club of McKinney and serves on the Foundation Board of Trustees of Collin County Community College. He is married and has two children.

David also attended UT and in 1985 moved back to McKinney where he built several communications businesses. He joined the Carey Cox Company in 1997. David, also the father of two, has served on the board for the American Red Cross, is an active volunteer for the Mickey Mantle World Series and is a graduate of Citizenship McKinney, a community leadership program sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce. David is a member of First Baptist Church.
